You edited, you refreshed, the number is the same. That's usually working as intended.
We hold the number rather than fake movement
If nothing meaningful about your resume has changed, your score stays where it is. We don't nudge it a point to make a refresh feel productive.
A score that drifted every time you re-ran it would be measuring our mood, not your resume. Steadiness is the property that makes the number worth reading: same resume, same target job, same score. When it moves, the movement means something.
Cosmetic edits don't count
Some edits don't change what your resume says:
- Whitespace only — extra spaces, blank lines, trimmed padding.
- Capitalisation only.
- Punctuation only.
You'll notice Refresh doesn't even become available after those. That isn't a bug. It's us not charging you a run for a change that can't move anything.
What does move a score
- Rewriting a bullet so it carries a result it didn't carry before.
- Adding a role, a project, or a section with real content in it.
- Adding or fixing contact details.
- Adding a target job, or changing it.
- Genuinely picking up language the posting uses, where it's honestly true of you.
Small real edits produce small real movements. One tightened bullet on a long resume moves things a little, which is the correct amount.
Why we're strict about this
Automated screening is far less consistent than people assume. A December 2025 benchmark ran nine different models over identical job-and-candidate pairs and found they agreed exactly only about a fifth of the time. In the same work, human reviewers judging suitability barely agreed with each other either.
That's the environment. In it, a score that jitters is indistinguishable from noise. A score that holds still unless your document actually changed is something you can reason about — and act on.
If you think it genuinely should have moved
- Check the change actually landed. The header shows a saving indicator; wait for it to clear.
- Check which half you changed. Rewriting bullets moves presentation dimensions; it won't necessarily shift Keywords or Must-haves.
- Check whether you're already in the top band, where remaining suggestions are refinements. See why scores don't reach 100.
- If the panel says there's nothing more on this version, that's the honest end of the road for this draft.
