Every resume template has a matching cover letter design. Your letter uses that companion by default, so the two documents look like they were made for each other — because they were.
Why matching matters
A recruiter usually opens both. A letter in a completely different typeface, with different margins and a different header treatment, reads as two documents from two people.
Matching them is one of the cheapest credibility wins available, and it's the default here so you don't have to think about it.
Switching to a different design
You're not locked to the companion. Open your resume, switch to the Cover Letter tab, and change the letter's design the same way you'd change a resume template.
Reasonable reasons to switch:
- You want a plainer letter than your design-forward resume.
- You're sending the letter on its own, without the resume.
- The companion doesn't suit the tone you're going for.
What happens if you change your resume template
Your letter keeps whatever design it's on. Switching your resume to a new template doesn't silently restyle your letter — if you want them matching again, switch the letter to the new companion yourself.
That's deliberate: if you'd deliberately chosen a different letter design, having it swap out from under you would be worse than a mismatch.
Free and Premium
Letter designs carry the same Free and Premium labels as resume templates. Cover letters themselves are a Premium feature, so if you're drafting one you can already use Premium letter designs.

- Your content is design-independent here too. Switching a letter design never changes a word.
