Some templates have a photo slot. Photos are off by default and you turn them on per resume.
How to turn one on
- Upload a photo in Account in Settings, if you haven't already.
- Open a resume that uses a template with a photo slot.
- In the editor, find the Photo section and switch on Show photo on this resume.
The preview updates immediately.
One photo, shared
There's one photo on your account, used by any document you switch it on for. Change it once and every resume showing it updates. There's no per-resume upload and no cropping tool — the template decides how it's framed.
When the option isn't there
The photo control only appears when all of these are true:
- The template has a photo slot designed into it.
- The template is design-forward, not ATS-strict.
- The template is a Premium one.
- You're on a plan that can use Premium templates.
If any of those isn't true, there's no photo option on that resume. If you want one, switch to a design-forward Premium template that supports it — the templates gallery shows which do.
Why ATS-strict templates never offer one
A photo can't be parsed. To screening software it's a rectangle of nothing where content could have been, and it pushes real text further down the page. ATS-strict designs exist to be maximally readable by machine, so they don't have a photo slot at all. That's a hard rule, not a setting.
Should you use one?
That depends on where you're applying, and it varies a lot by country. See should you include a photo at all?
Good to know
- Turning a photo on or off is instant and reversible. Nothing about your content changes.
- Your photo is not baked into the thumbnail we store for your resume, so toggling it doesn't leave your face in a cached preview.
- Removing the photo from Account in Settings removes it everywhere.
